Air Europa receives the first Boeing 737 Max 8, starting the fleet renewal for European flights
Air Europa incorporated its first Boeing 737 Max 8 this month, becoming Spain’s first airline to operate the model. The arrival of the aircraft marks the beginning of the renewal of the short and medium distance fleet, with the expected introduction of 20 units by 2027, in a process aligned with the goal of reducing operating costs and emissions.
The EC-OGS registration plane, already in commercial operation, is the first of the twenty units of the model acquired by contract with AERCAP. Four other 737 MAX should be delivered later this year, with another ten scheduled for next year.
The new 737 MAX 8 will be used mainly on medium -range European routes, and eventually on shorter domestic routes. In recent years Air Europa maintains the strategy of operating exclusively with Boeing aircraft, both on short, medium and long -term routes.
The choice of 737 MAX 8, according to Air Europa, is part of the strategy of reducing pollutant emissions by 30% by 2030, based on the levels of 2015. The model flight management systems that make it possible to reduce fuel consumption by up to 20% and CO₂ emissions.
“The incorporation of this unit marks a new stage for Air Europa. We continue innovating with the most advanced technology and reducing operating costs, which contributes to our long -term profitability,” said Juan José Hidalgo, president of Air Europa.
In the configuration adopted by the Spanish airline the 737 MAX 8 transports up to 189 passengers, upper compartments with more space, dynamic LED lighting.
