Aerolíneas Argentinas starts chartered flights between Rosario, Argentina, and Cabo Frio, Rio de Janeiro
Aerolíneas Argentinas inaugurated this Saturday (28), an unprecedented operation of chartered flights between the airports of Rosario, Argentina, and Cabo Frio, in the Rio de Janeiro Lakes Region.
The first flight departed around 8:30 am (Brasília) from Islas Malvinas International Airport (ROS) and landed at 11:05 am at the terminal located about 160 km from the state capital (CFB). The operation is seasonal and occurs exclusively on Saturdays, until August 16.
Flights are operated by Boeing 737 Max 8 or 737-800, through an Argentine tourism agency. Because it is a charter operation, tickets are not available for direct sale on the airline’s website, being marketed only as part of tour packages.
Cabo Frio represents an alternative closer to the cities of Buzios, Arraial do Cabo and the municipality itself, the largest in the region of the lakes, reducing the travel time in relation to the regular route by Galeão Airport (GIG), which can take more than two hours.
The local airport has not been not receiving regular passenger flights since March, when Azul Linhas Aéreas has suspended weekly flights from/to Belo Horizonte (CNF) due to financial issues.
Airline is prevented from expanding flights in Brazil
A decision of the National Civil Aviation Agency, Anac, published in the edition of the Official Gazette last Wednesday (25), imposed administrative measures on Aerolíneas Argentinas.
The restriction affects operations at airports in Brasilia, Rio de Janeiro (Gig), Salvador, Curitiba and Florianópolis, where Aerolíneas Argentinas will be able to maintain only frequencies already authorized and existing bases. Thus, being prohibited, precautionary, from opening new operational bases in Brazil and expanding the number of flights.
According to Anac, the decision was motivated by nonconformities identified in inspections, which remained without correction by Aerolíneas Argentinas. The suspension of expansion is provisional and will be maintained until the irregularities are remedied.
