Anac imposes new flight restrictions on Fernando de Noronha due to the stoppage of the works at the airport

The National Civil Aviation Agency adopted on Friday (4), a new precautionary measure to restrict air operations at Fernando de Noronha airport, after the stoppage works of paved areas of the airport infrastructure.

The decision was communicated to the airport operator, the airlines and the government of Pernambuco and happens five days after a second incident in a week involving aircraft sinking at the scene. The measure prohibits increased flight frequencies and limits simultaneous operations between commercial aircraft and general aviation. The action aims to ensure operational safety and continuity of air passenger transport on the island.

The new precautionary partially reviews March this year, which had suspended previous restrictions of October 2022 to jet operations. The resumption of limitations occurs after new safety events in the airport courtyard, which resulted in the interdiction of aircraft parking positions, and in view of the absence of continuity in the works agreed with ANAC.

Among the measures in force are:

  1. Freezing the amount of authorized flights;
  2. Limitation of simultaneous operations during regular aviation times;
  3. Reduction of the pavement resistance parameter to restrict aircraft weight.

ANAC said it will continue to monitor the situation and may adopt new steps if it identifies risks to operational safety. The Ordinance formalizing the restrictions will be published in the Federal Official Gazette next week.

In a statement, the Brazilian Association of Airlines reported that airlines will adjust their operations according to new determinations. Among the changes are the reduction of passenger and cargo capacity, the operation restricted to the dry track and the suspension of frequency increase by August 15.

Abear added that the measures aim to maintain the level of safety in operations and warned that the continuity of flights depends on the resumption of works by the state government. Companies guide passengers to consult their official channels for reimbursement and reschedule information.
