Air Algerie acquires 16 ATR 72-600 model aircraft and the first model simulator in Africa

ATR announced today (4), the sale of sixteen 72-600 to Air Algerie, its largest client on the African continent. The contract also includes the installation of the first full flight simulator of the 72-600 model in Africa.

Deliveries are scheduled to take place between 2026 and 2028. Airplanes, with a capacity of 72 passengers and equipped with state -of -the -art PW127XT engines, will be operated by Air Algerie’s new regional subsidiary, called Domestic Airlines.

The company will focus on expanding internal connectivity, especially in the southern regions of the country, where air transport is considered essential for economic and social development.

AIR ALGENIE operates ATR aircraft since 2003 and currently has twelve 72-500 and three 72-600. Previous acquisitions occurred in 2008 and 2014. With the new request, the company reinforces its strategy of modernization of the fleet and commitment to reduction of carbon emissions, with more efficient aircraft in fuel consumption.

According to Hamza Behamada, CEO of Air Algerie, the new ATR 72-600 will be critical to connecting less metal regions and contributing to national development. He also pointed out that the investment in the simulator represents an advance in the training of pilots and the company’s operational safety.

This is the largest request ever made by an African operator to ATR and marks a new chapter in the partnership of more than 20 years between the European manufacturer and Air Algérie.
