Air France Flight AF1000 Paris-Madrid Declares Emergency

An Air France flight departing Paris for Madrid has declared an emergency shortly after takeoff.

Air France flight AF1000, an Airbus A319-100, squawked transponder code 7700 not long after takeoff from Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG).

The flight had discontinued the departure and is currently expediting a return to Paris.

Having discontinued the climb procedure at 10, 000 feet, flight AF1000 carried out a direct return to the origin airport Paris Charles de Gaulle (CDG). The flight is now on final approach for runway 26R.

The nature of the emergency prompting the immediate return is not yet known.

06:03 UTC: Landed Paris (CDG)


Air France flight AF1000, originally bound for Madrid–Barajas Airport (MAD), has now landed Paris (CDG) after declaring an emergency shortly after takeoff this morning.

Flight data shows that flight AF1000 had made a departure from Paris Charles de Gaulle at 0726 local time this morning.

Following a departure from runway 26R, the flight was setting course and had climbed to 10,000 feet. Flight crew then discontinued the climb and commenced a descent and return.

The operating crew squawked transponder code 7700 at 0543 UTC, as the aircraft passed through 8,000 feet on a direct return.

The flight then landed at the departure airport, less than 30 minutes after its initial departure.

The aircraft conducting the AF1000 rotation to Madrid was an Airbus A319-100, registered F-GRHZ. This is a 32.7 year old narrowbody aircraft belonging to the French national carrier Air France.

Previous Emergency Incident

Notably, this aircraft was involved in an emergency whilst on approach to Paris yesterday, Thursday 26 June. In yesterday’s incident, the aircraft declared an emergency on descent into Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport. The aircraft was operating as flight AF1767, and was inbound from Lyon–Saint Exupéry Airport (LYS).

It is now known if the two emergency events are related to the same problem.
