Qantas receives its first Airbus A321xlr and becomes the model launch operator in Asia Pacific
The Australian Qantas received on Monday (30), its first Airbus A321xlr and will become the first operator of the new generation of single corridor aircraft in the Asia Pacific region.
Delivery was made at the manufacturer’s assembly line in Hamburg (XFW) in Germany. The VH-Oga enrollment aircraft was transported to Sydney (SYD) with only one bangkok (BKK) crew stop. Equipped with Pratt & Whitney GTF engines, the new Qantas plane has two -class configuration, with twenty seats in the executive class and 177 in the main cabin.
Initially, the aircraft will be used on domestic routes in Australia, with the possibility of future expansion for secondary destinations in Asia. In total, Qantas Group ordered forty A321XLR units as part of its fleet modernization program – 28 for Qantas and twelve to the low cost jetstar subsidiary.
Orders are part of a larger airline order with Airbus, which includes 128 single and 24 A350-1000 wide fuselage aircraft.
The A321xlr is an evolution of the A320neo family, with greater range and load capacity. According to the manufacturer, the aircraft offers up to 30% reduction in fuel consumption and carbon emissions compared to previous models. More than five hundred orders have been recorded around the world.
Like other Airbus models, the A321xlr is certified to operate with up to 50% sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), with 100% to 2030.
