Airbus concludes tests from the A400m firefighting kit in the A400m modular French System allows you to throw up to 20,000 liters of water or retardant by mission and can be installed without permanent modifications

Airbus has completed the modular fire -fighting Modular Fire Kit campaign in the A400m. The rehearsals were performed in Nîmes-Garons in France, supervised by the ENTE-Valabre (CEREN) test center, responsible for validating forest fires air solutions.

Although it was held in April, Airbus released only now the conclusion of the tests. Independent analysis was under the responsibility of the ENTE-Valabre (CEREN) test and research center, a French public institution authorized by the Ministry of Interior to validate forest fire fighting equipment.

During the test campaign, the A400m made several launches of retardant over a specific area of the aerodrome, allowing the CEREN to accurately evaluate the distribution and concentration of the launched material. The flights were performed at altitudes below 30 meters and at speeds close to 230 km/h.

The A400M fire fighting kit uses a Roll-On/Roll-off modular system, which dispenses with permanent modifications on the aircraft-a concept similar to MAFFs employed on Embraer C-390. The configuration allows any fleet unit to be quickly adapted to fire -fighting aerial missions. The system is capable of throwing up to 20,000 liters of water or delayed by gravity, almost double the C-390 capacity through the back ramp, with refueling in less than ten minutes using standard bombs.

According to Airbus, the solution aims to complement the existing technologies in soil, air and space.

We completed an important step towards the creation of an ecosystem of fire abilities”Disserto Müller, director of sustainability and communication at Airbus Defence and Space.A400m’s versatility and rapid mobilization capacity of the kit represent a significant advance in this scenario.”

The European Airbus also reported that the new solution is part of the company’s air combat portfolio, aligned with decarbonization goals and the confrontation of growing global challenges related to forest fires.
