Aircraft Propeller Service (APS) has opened a new MRO facility in Selangor, Malaysia – its first in Asia – to support operators in Malaysia and the wider Asia-Pacific region, which accounts for 37% of the global ATR fleet.
The 30,096 sqft centre features a climate-controlled factory floor and a three-storey administrative office. It will initially offer in-house MRO services for ATR 42/72 and Airbus C295 propellers, with plans to expand capabilities in the future.
“This MRO centre represents more than a geographic expansion,” said Daniel Colbert, chief executive of APS. “It is a strategic investment in workforce development and technical excellence, and a commitment to be close to our customers.
“By combining our proprietary expertise with Malaysia’s skilled talent pool, we are building a centre of excellence in Asia-Pacific for propeller MRO to support operators in this part of the world.”
The Malaysian centre joins APS’ existing footprint in the US and Brazil and is the only MRO facility in Asia and the Americas authorised by Collins Aerospace to perform OEM-proprietary 568F propeller repairs. The new facility is certified by both the US FAA and the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia, with EASA and additional approvals expected soon.
Chief Minister of Selangor, Yab Dato ‘Series Amirudin bin Shari, Officiated the Hubs Opening Alongside Colbert and APS Asia-Pacific Managing Director, Fergus Lopez.
Twenty of the site’s 30 employees have completed APS’ OEM-authorised training in the US and Brazil, including 31 required technical courses and certifications for complex inspection and repair procedures.
“Our Asia-Pacific operation meets the same world-class standards as our facilities in Brazil and the US,” Lopez said. “This achievement reflects the dedication of our Malaysian team, who have gone through very comprehensive technical training.”
APS says the facility underscores its long-term commitment to the Asia-Pacific region, the world’s largest turboprop market, which is forecast to require nearly 1,000 new 50-70 seat turboprops over the next 20 years.
