Azul plane sinks in the courtyard of Fernando de Noronha airport before takeoff

An Azul Linhas Aéreas Embraer E195-E2 sank on the courtyard asphalt of Fernando de Noronha airport on Sunday morning (22) during the pushback procedure. The incident occurred moments before flight takeoff from AD4719 to Recife.

The PS-AEO registration aircraft and in operation since May 2023 had the left main landing train committed to giving on the courtyard surface. The delay impacted other company operations, such as the Recife – Porto Alegre flight (AD4150), scheduled for 12:45, which only departed at 15h. The return, which should take place at 5:50 pm, was reprogrammed at 7:50 pm.

Azul issued the following note: “Azul informs that the aircraft that made the flight AD4719 (Fernando de Noronha-Recife) this Sunday, 22, had the wheel of its rear landing train sunk on the asphalt during pushback, procedure prior to takeoff, in totally alien to the will of the company.

Customers were landed in full security and received the assistance provided for in Anac’s 400 resolution. The aircraft was removed from the site, underwent a technical inspection and was released. Subsequently, customers were reembarked and the flight normally took off at 2:11 pm.

Aero Magazine contacted the government of Pernambuco – responsible for maintaining the airport – and the National Civil Aviation Agency (Anac). Until the publication of this text, neither party had spoken out about what happened.
