Birmingham Airport (BHX) has marked a historic milestone with its busiest June ever, welcoming 1,360,957 passengers.

Fuelled by the summer season’s start and new routes to Gibraltar, Poros, and Samos, BHX is on track for its busiest year, expecting nearly 14 million passengers in 2025/26.

A Record June

Popular routes for the month of June included Dublin, Palma de Mallorca, Belfast, Amsterdam, and Alicante. The spread of routes showcases Birmingham Airport’s appeal for both leisure and business travellers.

To manage this growth, BHX unveiled a £76.5 million Capital Investment Plan in May, the largest in its history.

This equates to £1.5 million weekly enhancements, including a reconfigured south terminal immigration area, additional self-service kiosks, and expanded airside dining and shopping options with brands like Pret A Manger and JD Sports.

These upgrades aim to streamline passenger flow and elevate the travel experience.

Removal of 100ml Liquid Restriction

BHX also celebrated a major security upgrade. Advanced next-generation scanners now allow passengers to carry up to two litres of liquids in hand luggage, a significant improvement over previous restrictions.

Last year, BHX met the UK government’s deadline for installing these scanners, becoming a pioneer among UK airports. To prepare for the summer rush, two additional screening lanes were added, reducing wait times and enhancing efficiency.

Al Titterington, Terminal Operations Directorsaid: “June set another record, with more passengers choosing BHX. Our investments, from revamped facilities to cutting-edge security, are transforming the customer experience.”

“The eased liquid rules let us fully utilize our state-of-the-art technology, making travel smoother. We’re excited to welcome more passengers this peak season.”

BHX: Vital Midlands Gateway

Located in the heart of the UK, BHX serves as a vital gateway, connecting the Midlands to over 150 destinations across Europe, Asia, and North America.

Its strategic location, just 15 minutes from Birmingham city centre, makes it a convenient choice for travellers.

With sustainability in focus, BHX is also investing in greener operations, including electric ground vehicles and energy-efficient terminal upgrades, aligning with its goal to achieve net-zero emissions by 2033.

As BHX heads into its busiest season, its commitment to innovation, convenience, and sustainability solidifies its role as a leading regional hub. The airport looks well situated to handle the influx of summer travellers.
