Edgewing promises to revolutionize next generation fighters

Joint Venture Edgewing, formed by British Bae Systems, Italian Leonardo and Japan Aircraft Industrial Enhancement, was officially launched to lead the development of future combat aircraft at Global Combat Air Program (GCAP). The new company will be responsible for the design, development and management of the full life of the aircraft, whose operation is expected to be beyond 2070.

Headquartered in the United Kingdom and teams distributed in the three partner countries, Edgewing will play a central role in fulfilling the aircraft entry target by 2035. The initiative establishes a new trilateral industrial partnership model between Europe and Asia, aiming at technological integration and strengthening strategic supply chains.

Marco Zoff, former director of Leonardo Aircraft Division, assumes as CEO of Edgewing. According to him, the consortium will gather skills in engineering, innovation and production to deliver a state -of -the -art air combat system.

“By joining the strengths of our talents in the UK, Italy and Japan, we are not just delivering a state -of -the -art air combat system, but we also intend to establish a new global partnership standard, innovation and confidence,” said Zoff.

The executive also pointed out that collaboration seeks to improve supply chains and the transfer of technology between nations, leaving a safety and prosperity legacy to the next generations.

The International Government Organization for GCAP (Gigo) stressed the importance of the program’s advancement, classifying the launch of Edgewing as a milestone in the joint development of sovereign air capacities.

“I am confident that together we can establish a new partnership model that will promote international integration, mutual trust and a shared commitment to our future,” said Masami Oka, executive director of the International Government Organization for GCAP.

GCAP is considered strategic by the three countries for security and economy. The program aims to consolidate a high capacity air defense system and foster the development of critical technologies, strengthening the global aerospace industry and ensuring cutting -edge technology until the end of the century.
