LATAM will invest $ 60 million to carry Wi-Fi aboard international flights on wide fuselage aircraft from 2026
LATAM AIRLINES announced yesterday (2), which will offer, from 2026, Wi-Fi service on board on its wide fuselage aircraft operating long distance routes such as Santiago-Sydney, Lima-Madrid and Sao Paulo-London.
The project will have an investment of US $ 60 million (R $ 324.8 million) and will expand the connectivity already present on the company’s short and medium duration flights.
Currently, LATAM has over 250 aircraft equipped with Wi-Fi, a service already used by more than eight million passengers. The most used routes are Santiago – Fortaleza and Lima – Havana. The company predicts that by the end of the year, 100% of the single corridor aircraft fleet of all affiliates is connected.
The new service will be made possible through an agreement with ViaSat, a company that specializes in satellite connectivity. The technology adopted, ViaSat Amara, uses satellites in geostationary and low orbit, providing global coverage, including remote areas, with high speed and low latency.
In addition to serving passengers, the state-of-the-art Wi-Fi will allow you to improve real-time flight operations between crew and teams on soil, data transmission for predictive maintenance and route optimization from the pilots’ booth.
The expansion of connectivity integrates a set of initiatives aimed at modernizing the onboard experience. These include the Wide Body aircraft cabinet retrofit program and the introduction of Business Suites. According to Latam, changes aim to offer a more technological and efficient experience throughout the journey.
