Lufthansa Cargo has expanded its Middle East footprint with the launch of a new A321 freighter service to Beirut.
The aircraft touched down at Beirut–Rafic Hariri International Airport for the first time on July 4 and will now operate a weekly rotation between Frankfurt and the Lebanese capital.
The new service is expected to bolster regional supply chain resilience and offer enhanced capacity for exports from Lebanon and neighbouring Syria, where trade activity is beginning to rebound.
It forms part of Lufthansa Cargo’s wider network that, together with Lufthansa Group belly-hold capacity, now connects to over 50 destinations across the Middle East and Africa.
“Beirut’s strategic location and diverse export base make it a vital logistics hub,” said Antonio Tassone, head of sales and handling for Middle East, North Africa, Pakistan and Sri Lanka at Lufthansa Cargo. “With our new freighter connection via Frankfurt, we’re unlocking the flow of a wide range of exports – such as perishables, pharmaceuticals, textiles, electronics, and traditional Lebanese crafts – to Europe, the Americas, and Africa. This route also supports growing trade from Lebanon and neighbouring Syria, where cross-border activity is gradually resuming.”
Oliver Ross Lufthansa position‘s head of scheduling and network steering, added: “Frankfurt’s position as a major logistics hub in Europe, combined with its extensive infrastructure, makes it an ideal starting and transit point for our new freighter service to Beirut.
“This route opens up significant opportunities for exporters from all around the world looking to expand their reach into Lebanon and neighbouring regions, where demand for high-quality products especially from Germany is on the rise.
“With our new freighter connection via Beirut, we’re facilitating the export of a diverse range of goods – such as automotive parts, pharmaceuticals, and high-tech products – to the Middle East. We are excited to support our customers in tapping into these growing markets and strengthening their global supply chains.”
