Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG), the parent company of Malaysia Airlines, has secured an order for 20 additional Airbus A330neo aircraft. Part of its fleet renewal program, this doubles its original purchase order for the new widebody aircraft.
This strategic move, exercised through purchase rights with Airbus, positions Malaysia Airlines as one of the largest A330neo operators in the Asia-Pacific region.
The decision supports MAG’s ambition to remain a leading premium airline in one of the world’s most dynamic travel markets.
Expanding the A330neo Fleet
This latest order builds on MAG’s 2022 agreement for 20 A330neo aircraft, which included 10 purchased directly from Airbus and 10 leased from Avolon.
With the new order, MAG’s total A330neo commitment now stands at 40 aircraft. Deliveries for this additional batch are slated to begin in 2029 and continue through 2031, ensuring a steady rollout of modernized aircraft to meet growing demand.
The A330neo is a cornerstone of MAG’s fleet renewal strategy. The aircraft boasts fuel efficiency, operational flexibility, and advanced cabin features. This further enables Malaysia Airlines to serve high-growth markets across ASEAN, China, India, and Australasia.

Current and Future Deliveries
To date, Malaysia Airlines has taken delivery of four A330neo aircraft, which are currently operating on select routes to Auckland, Melbourne, and Bali.
Six more are expected to join the fleet by the end of 2025, with the remaining aircraft from the original 2022 order scheduled for delivery through 2028.
The additional 20 aircraft ordered will further enhance the airline’s capacity and network reach in the years ahead.
