Defense and MCTI discuss applications of quantum technologies for safety and innovation in Brazil, focusing on technological independence

The Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation discussed the advances of the Brazilian initiative for quantum technologies (Ibquantic) and its possible applications in the area of national defense.

The meeting took place last Friday (4), at the Ministry of Defense, with the participation of the Department of Science, Technology and Innovation (DECI) and the Department of Innovation Programs (Depin).

The meeting addressed the results of the initiative and reinforced cooperation between the bodies for the development of projects focused on technologies considered critical for Brazil. According to the director of the deci, counter-mirror Charles Wilson Gomes Conti, the narrowing of ties between folders is essential for the creation of strategic solutions. “In addition to making room for future work in other critical technologies and areas of interest to national defense,” he added.

Quantum Technologies for Safety and Innovation

During the meeting, examples of quantum technology applications were presented in war scenarios, such as radars to detect camouflaged aircraft, cryptography for safe communications and the use of quantum computers in the development of new materials.

In the civil field, applications include biosensors and quantum imaging devices for early diagnosis of complex diseases, security for safe financial transactions and the development of quantum internet.

Ibquantic search technological independence

Ibquantic aims to boost national development in the quantum sector and reduce the technological dependence of Brazil. The initiative’s guidelines are defined by a working group and are aligned with the country’s strategic objectives in areas such as cyber security, digital transformation and semiconductors.
