Amid tensions climbing in the Middle East, Qatar announced the temporary closure of its airspace

The Government of Qatar announced on Monday (23), the temporary closure of its airspace by precaution, after military attacks from the United States against Iranian targets and the possibility of retaliation by Iran.

According to a statement from the Catar Foreign Ministry, published on Rede X (former Twitter), the suspension of air traffic aims to “ensure the safety of citizens, residents and visitors” in the face of recent developments in the region. With the decision, Qatar Airways flights to Doha (Doh) were diverted from the capital.

The measure occurs in a moment of growing instability. In recent days, the United States and the United Kingdom have issued security alerts to their citizens at Qatar, recommending that they remain in safe places. The American alert was released on the same day as the Caária ad.

Since US attacks last weekend, several international flights have been suspended or redirected in the Gulf, including operations involving cities like Doha. In addition, airlines already avoided flying over the air spaces of Iran, Iraq, Syria and parts of Jordan due to increased risk level.

Qatar houses the largest military base in the United States in the region, which raises its exposure to possible Iranian retaliatory actions. The Iranian government has reiterated threats to respond to US attacks in recent days, which contributed to the decision to close Catari airspace.
