The United Arab Emirates closed airspace after Iranian missile attack on US bases in Qatar and Iraq

The United Arab Emirates temporarily closed their airspace on Monday (23), after the release of Iran’s missiles against US military bases in Qatar and Iraq, according to FlightRadar24 data cited in his official account on social network X.

Flight tracking data exhibits an abrupt drop in air activity over the emirates and neighboring countries, while commercial companies rose or canceled flights in the Middle East. The measure follows similar actions from several Gulf countries, such as Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait and Iraq, in response to the worsening regional tensions.

The Iranian attack aimed at the Al-Euded Air Base in Qatar, and another in Iraq, which also houses US forces. The American Air Force reported that short and medium range missiles were intercepted without injured. In Doha, explosions were heard, but there was no report of victims between military or civilians.

Airspace closes occurs amid signs of military climbing: Iran said the shots equivalent to the number of bombs launched by the US against their nuclear facilities, although it highlighted that they aimed at remote areas, avoiding urban centers.

Although there is no official pronouncement of the Arab Emirates Aviation Authority yet, the practice, adopted for safety, reinforces the immediate impact on Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah airport hubs, with deviation of routes, delays and cancellations. Company flights such as Indigo, Air India Express, Singapore Airlines, British Airways and KLM were affected.

The measure also reduced pressure on fuel costs, which experienced fall after Iranian intervention, seen by analysts as deliberately moderate.
